Web3 Ladies and Celo Announce Winners of "Women Build Celo Hackathon”

Web3Ladies, the largest Web3 community for ladies in Africa, in collaboration with Celo, a leading payment infrastructure platform for cryptocurrencies, is thrilled to announce the successful completion and winners of its inaugural hackathon program, "Women Build Celo Hackathon." 

Inspired by Women's History Month, the hackathon aimed to showcase women's immense talent and creativity in the blockchain industry, as well as provide them with a platform to demonstrate their skills and innovative ideas. Participants were tasked with working on diverse Web3 project ideas, including Gamefi, Defi, Socialfi, and other decentralized applications that promote financial inclusion and economic empowerment globally.

Oluchi Enebeli, Founder of Web3Ladies, expressed her excitement about the partnership with Celo, stating, "We are delighted to organize our first hackathon in collaboration with Celo. We firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are vital for the success of blockchain technology, which is poised to revolutionize multiple industries soon. 

Again, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the participants, sponsors, and supporters for their hard work, dedication, and exceptional contributions to the success of the Women Build Celo Hackathon. 388 ladies signed up for the hackathon, and 31 diverse and groundbreaking projects were completed, demonstrating the remarkable talent and potential within the women-led tech community”.

Anna Kryukova, the community lead at Celo, also shared her enthusiasm towards the success of the hackathon. “At Celo, our mission is to create a more equitable financial system that serves everyone, regardless of background or location. We strongly believe that financial inclusion is a fundamental right.”

After intense competition among incredibly talented participants, the winners of the Women Build Celo Hackathon has been announced:

  • Team Twilight emerged as the winner, showcasing exceptional skills and innovation.
  • Team Havid secured the first runner-up position with their outstanding performance.
  • Team Estate Elite claimed the second runner-up title, demonstrating remarkable talent.

In addition, special awards were given to recognise the significant impact and originality of certain teams:

  • Team Cyndie was awarded the Most Impactful prize for their outstanding contribution to the hackathon
  • Team Celobaddies received the Most Original, Creative, and Innovative accolade for their groundbreaking ideas.
  • Team Tech Titans were honoured as the Most Complex team, highlighting their exceptional technical expertise.

The winners were presented with the following cash prizes: the first prize of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500), the second prize of one thousand dollars ($1000), and the third prize of five hundred dollars ($500) respectively. 

The response received from the Women's Hackathon has further strengthened Web3Ladies’ commitment to creating more opportunities for women in the technology industry. Ladies in the blockchain industry can be well assured that preparations for future hackathons to create more avenues for women to showcase their brilliance are already in progress.
