Should payment on delivery be scrapped? The closure of iDEA hub and JAMB protests

The death of Mr. Chukuma Eleje, the Jumia delivery agent in Portharcourt has spurred calls for the abolishment of payment on delivery, both on and offline. Known as the ‘bane of eCommerce’ in Nigeria, PoD is perceived a necessary evil because that was what attracted buyers in the first place.

This week, Payporte announced the suspension of this the payment model. In the stead of PoD, the company promises 48 hours returns on deposited funds in the event of any arising liability.

iDEA hub has closed shop. On March 16th, 2017, news broke that iDEA Nigeria was relocating from its popular Yaba home to somewhere in Lagos Island.
