Abeokuta-based logistics startup, Pickmeup, has just launched an online ride-hailing service -- Pickmeup Ride -- the first of its kind in the south-western-Nigeria city.
By so doing, the startup continues to extend its service offering which already includes laundry, food delivery and logistics to customers majorly in Abeokuta.
The new ride-hailing service was prompted by the need to boost revenue. Till 2018, the company struggled with income. As a result, it added laundry and logistics to its chain of services, all in an attempt to boost revenue.

Like Uber, Pickmeup Ride connects drivers to a host of passengers who request rides daily. The startup does not directly own or brand cars as drivers are required to register their own cars on the mobile app, which is available on the Google Play Store.
“We believe that any technological advancement that happens in Lagos State will soon move to Ogun state. And we also leveraged on the fact that most students in Ogun state tertiary institutions are from Lagos state and are familiar with ride-hailing services,” Pickmeup’s Creative Director, Abimbola told Techpoint.
He believes Pickmeup Ride can do well within Abeokuta and other south-western cities in catering for the needs of both students and civil servants, something other ride-hailing options might miss.
The service is only available in Abeokuta for now. But Abimbola thinks that with their present strategy, Pickmeup Ride will expand to Ibadan and other South-western cities within the next two years.
