Evans Akanno is a serial entrepreneur. Between 2013 and 2015, Evans co-founded three startups: Zegist, Farmkart Foods and Cregital — a digital agency where he is currently the CEO. This year, he’s was recognized in Forbes Africa ‘#30Under30’ list.
On this week’s How I Work, he tells us how he achieved these feats and how he stays productive.

Describe how you work in one word: Execution
Tell us briefly about how you started your career and how you got where you are today.
I built my design skills in 2010 and worked in marketing teams of e-commerce startups learning how design and web influence business success. I rested for six months and launched Cregital. I’ve been learning and leading the team, working with startups and leading enterprises crafting beautiful brand and web experiences that meet user’s needs and business goals.
Walk us through a recent workday.
My typical workday starts at 5 a.m. when I do all the work that requires me to do. I get to the office by 9 a.m. and spend time reviewing the products and websites we are building for clients.
Brainstorming sessions are spontaneous and happen at any hour if required. I have developers and designers continually working in sync to ensure the best synergy of user experience design and functionality across all web projects.
I have lunch which is ready at noon, then review another team’s project and look for ways to help manage clients’ expectations or understand their feedback.
What apps, gadgets, or tools can’t you live without?
I can live without them all but I’ll be a little frustrated… So…MacBook, iPhone, My Notes, Gmail, Google Chrome, Sketch App, Instagram, and iTunes.
What’s your favourite shortcut or hack?
Screenshots. Best way to archive and keep notes.
What tasks don’t you like but have to do?
Going to meetings which can be had over voice or video calls.
How do you keep track of what you have to do?
Notes. And I try to remember them as well.
How do you recharge or take a break?
I love the sand on my feet so I go to the beach. I also plan mini holidays around any work trip.
What do you enjoy or spend time doing besides work?
I spend time watching movies, visiting friends and family, investing, and shopping.
What are you currently reading, watching or listening to, or what do you recommend?
I recommend Virgin Way by Richard Branson and Startup CEO by Matt Blumberg.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Create your manufacturer’s time — the time set apart in isolation where you think and deploy your best work.
