- Huawei Egypt and Vodafone Egypt claim to have successfully deployed the world’s first commercial 25 Gbps microwave link in the E-band spectrum.
- The microwave link, which operates in the E-band (80 GHz), aims to provide high capacity and performance, allowing for data transmission at 25 Gbps over long distances.
- This move comes days after the Egyptian government signed agreements for the second phase of 5G licences with three mobile operators, including Vodafone Egypt, to enhance 5G services, improve communication quality, and expand the network’s capacity.
Moreover, in May 2024, Huawei Cloud launched its first public cloud in partnership with Telecom Egypt to establish Huawei’s first locally-based public cloud platform in Egypt.
The public cloud platform will be hosted in Telecom Egypt’s data centres, with access to over 60 countries worldwide via 14 submarine cable systems, which are expected to increase to 18 by 2025.
While the public cloud initiative seeks to establish Egypt as a regional hub, advancing the development of cloud computing and digital services, deploying the 25 Gbps microwave link is expected to strengthen Egypt’s position as a hub for ultra-high-speed connectivity, benefiting both businesses and consumers.
“As part of our strategic partnership with Vodafone Egypt, this 25 Gbps microwave link will enable the delivery of high-demand applications such as 5G, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT),” Jim Liu, Chief Executive Officer at Huawei Egypt says.
Huawei affirms its commitment to advancing next-generation network solutions and contributing to innovative telecom technologies across the Middle East and Africa.
After announcing a 10-year partnership with Microsoft in January 2024, Vodafone Group and Google have extended their existing partnership by a further ten years to bring new services, devices, and TV experiences to Vodafone’s customers in Europe and Africa.
The move, supported by Google Cloud and Google’s Gemini models, will provide storage, security, and AI assistance to Vodafone’s customers and partners.
Vodafone’s partnership with Microsoft aims to deliver generative AI, digital services, and cloud solutions to over 300 million businesses and consumers in Africa and Europe.
