  • Sistema.bio, a Nairobi-based biogas technology company, has announced the acquisition of Inclusive Energy (IE), a digital monitoring platform for solar and biogas systems, less than two weeks after securing $15 million to scale clean energy technology across Africa.
  • This acquisition expands the company's ability to deliver high-impact biogas solutions with improved digital MRV capabilities, benefiting farmers worldwide with better service and long-term support.
  • It will also facilitate remote diagnosis, usage analytics for carbon reporting, and data insights for predictive maintenance, enabling the company to better support farmers and partners with a real-time monitoring system for biogas digesters, utilising intelligent sensing and communication tools.

Inclusive Energy (IE) is at the forefront of Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV). Its IoT technology and digital platform provide biogas performance tracking to improve farmers’ service and usage experience.

Per a statement, this acquisition enables Sistema.bio to combine its position as the largest full-service biogas company with the first biogas-specific platform for dMRV, facilitating the delivery of carbon emission reduction projects at scale with high-quality digital monitoring.

Alex Eaton, CEO and co-founder of Sistema.bio stated that this development allows the company to accelerate both technologies to better serve farmers and reduce carbon and methane emissions. He emphasised that integrating the two companies is a strategic move to reinforce Sistema.bio’s commitment to climate action, accelerating progress toward achieving a 1% reduction in annual global GHG emissions by 2030.

Vijay Bhopal, CEO of Inclusive Energy, also shared that partnering with Sistema.bio positions them well to use IE's digital technologies to enhance lives and strengthen credibility in the carbon markets.

“In addition to strengthening business growth at scale, IE technology enhances farmers’ ROI from biogas and regenerative agriculture systems by ensuring the integrity of carbon impact data,” said Joyce Cacho, Independent Board Chair at Sistema.bio.

This move doesn't affect all IEʼs existing Inclusive Energy customer and partner contracts to ensure data confidentiality, service access, and maintenance.

Sistema.bio is a social enterprise that supports family farmers through innovative biodigester technology, training, and financing, addressing key challenges like poverty, food security, and climate change. The company manufactures affordable biodigesters that convert waste into renewable energy and organic fertiliser.

The company operates in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, and Nigeria, benefiting over 100,000 farmers in sub-Saharan Africa.
