Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, is currently in Silicon Valley, U.S. on a roadshow which will last till Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
The visit is lined with many activities, but a source confirmed to Techpoint that it will be primarily geared towards attracting investments into Nigeria’s burgeoning tech space.
Last month in the state capital Abuja, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo inaugurated the Advisory Group on Technology and Creativity, established by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017, as part of an effort to boost industrial policies and competitiveness for the country.
The committee has a good number of private sector members with roots in one technology operation or the other. As our source reveals, the Vice President’s entourage comprises a number of tech-savvy entrepreneurs from that advisory board.
After inaugurating the advisory board, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo lauded the impact of technology towards driving down unemployment in the country. And there is no doubt that on this trip, these tech-savvy entrepreneurs might be introduced to high-profile investors in furthering the technology course in Nigeria.
It might be quite early to debate the impact of the visit on the Nigerian economy as time will do the unraveling.
