Suvenia is an online platform where users can discover, create, buy and sell personalised items. These items range from clothes (such as hoodies, face-caps, sweatshirts, t-shirts) to products (such as mugs, snapbacks, baseball hats etc). The startup was founded by Damilare Ogunleye (CEO), Oluwafemi Ojumu (COO), Adéníyì Jaiyeola (Business Development Director), and Olufikayo Olabiyi (Supply chain Director).
After launching the MVP in November 2016, the founding team realised that the need for endless possibilities in personalising items cannot be met by the present traditional retail channels. Especially considering that Africans spent over $2 billion on personalised items in 2016. This discovery informed their official launch first fully functional version in September 2017.
Whether it’s for users to clone the wears of their favourite musical artists or show off their month of birth (e.g. Queens are born in “Jancember“). Wizkid is arguably Africa’s biggest and most loved musical artiste at the moment. However, as a fan residing in Africa, it is easier to buy a shirt of his on redbubble.com in the US, costing about $57, than it is to find a $15 shirt anywhere on the continent. This is why we have created this platform to enable users create, buy and sell personalised items.
Bearing in mind there are local competitors already playing in this space, Damilare says they only do that in bits; without focusing on the entire spectrum. According to him, Suvenia offers more flexibility through its well-integrated offline support systems. And when it comes to global competitors, understanding and operating within the context of an infrastructural deficit that exists in most of Sub-Saharan Africa gives Suvenia an edge, he claims.
