How the Comparison Testing was Carried Out

To ensure a fair and thorough comparison between Meta AI and ChatGPT, I’ll use a structured, side-by-side approach known as back-to-back testing. This means I’ll give both AIs the exact same prompts and tasks and then directly compare their outputs for each category, such as speed, accuracy, response depth, and image quality.

For each prompt or use case, I’ll:

  • Submit identical inputs to both Meta AI and ChatGPT.
  • Record how long each takes to respond, noting any delays or speed differences.
  • Evaluate the quality of the answers or images, looking at how well each matches the prompt, the level of detail (depth), and overall usefulness.
  • For image generation, I’ll also check for things like watermarks, realism, and how easy the images are to use elsewhere.

To keep things objective, I’ll rate each response using a consistent scoring system and note any standout features or issues. This method is commonly used in AI testing because it highlights strengths, weaknesses, and any quirks that might not show up with only one tool.

By using this side-by-side, prompt-by-prompt method, I can give a clear, unbiased view of how each AI performs under the same conditions. This approach ensures the results are fair, transparent, and easy to compare for anyone curious about which AI might suit their needs best.

Look at the 10 prompts I’ll be using for this testing below.

Bonus prompt: Create a black-and-white photo of a Black woman about to sing in a studio.

Now, let’s get into it.

Testing Meta AI and ChatGTP Performance with 10 Prompts

Prompt 1: Summarize the main mission of the latest HERtitude event hosted in Lagos on 26th April 2025.

This one was eye-opening. When I asked Meta AI through its web browser and WhatsApp chat, it didn’t give me an answer at all. Instead, it redirected me to Google, which felt so unreal. ChatGPT, on the other hand, delivered a detailed summary, even providing a banner and rich context about the event’s mission and activities. It was clear, helpful, and actually answered my question. ChatGPT was the winner here by a mile.

2. Prompt 2: Write a short poem about early rainy, cold mornings from the POV of a dreamy young girl in a classroom wishing she didn’t have to leave her bed to attend school.

Meta AI’s poem was short and poetic but felt a bit surface-level. ChatGPT’s poem was longer and more vivid and really captured that dreamy, relatable feeling of wanting to stay in bed on a rainy morning. It painted a picture and tugged at the emotions more, so I preferred ChatGPT’s take. N/B, they both had rhyme schemes.

3. Prompt 3: Explain quantum computing to me like I’m a 10-year-old.

Meta AI kept it simple, but it was almost too simple and not very conversational. ChatGPT broke it down using fun analogies and a friendly tone. It felt like ChatGPT was actually talking to a kid, making the concept both relatable and easy to grasp. I could see a child getting curious about quantum computing after reading ChatGPT’s answer.

4. Prompt 4: Suggest three healthy lunch ideas for 60-year-olds diagnosed with diabetes.

Meta AI gave me a quick ingredient list for three meals, but that was it-no cooking guide or explanation. ChatGPT went the extra mile, listing the ingredients, giving a step-by-step cooking guide, and even adding a section on why each meal was healthy for someone with diabetes. That extra bit of care and detail made ChatGPT’s answer much more practical.

5. Prompt 5: Translate “Good morning, how are you?” to Spanish and Portuguese.

Both AIs got the translation right. But Meta AI added a different usage setting, which was a thoughtful touch for anyone unfamiliar with the languages.

6. Prompt 6: List the top 5 productivity apps for students.

Meta AI gave me a trendy list, but it felt like it was just picking names off the top of the app store, giving no real explanation or street credibility rates. ChatGPT, on the other hand, gave detailed descriptions, explained each app’s features, and included pointers on which type of student would benefit most from each one. That kind of detail makes a list actually worthwhile.

7. Prompt 7: Generate a funny TikTok meme caption about Mondays.

Both AIs were decent here. Meta AI’s caption was quick and light, but ChatGPT’s had more personality, which was something I’d actually consider posting.

10. Prompt 10: Write a 100-word motivational and joyful “first day at the job” message for someone starting a new video editor role.

This time, Meta AI surprised me. Its message was more joyful and uplifting, with a friendly, informal tone, whereas ChatGPT’s version was more formal and less joyful. Thus, Meta AI actually won this prompt.

Bonus Prompt: Create a black-and-white photo of a Black woman about to sing in a studio in 1955.

Meta AI delivered the image quickly with background catch-ups, the pose looks great (an in-motion one), and the photo is 100% realistic for me, but it was watermarked. ChatGPT took longer, but the image looked more natural and came without a watermark, making it easier to use anywhere. ChatGPT took a bit longer, but the image wasn’t watermarked, and the photorealism was 80% for me. There weren’t any background catch-ups. So, I think Meta AI took it for this one.

When Should You Use ChatGTP and Meta AI?

After reading all this, you may be wondering when to use Meta AI and when to reach for ChatGPT. I think it really comes down to what you want to achieve and where you’re working.

So,

Go with Meta AI when you want things done fast, fun, and easy, especially if you’re already hanging out on Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp. Meta AI is built right into these apps, so you don’t have to switch platforms or open new tabs. Need a quick answer to a question, help finding the right emoji, or want to jazz up your Instagram post with a clever caption? Meta AI is perfect for those moments.

It’s also your go-to for image generation. You only need to describe what you want, and Meta AI can whip up visuals right inside your social feed. Its strength is in making everyday digital life smoother and more interactive when you’re chatting with friends, managing a business page, or looking for creative inspiration on the fly.

Meta AI is especially handy for:

  • Social media content creation (captions, posts, images).
  • Quick, conversational answers.
  • Personalized recommendations and suggestions within Meta apps.
  • Light editing and brainstorming for posts or messages
  • Automating responses to common questions in WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram DMs.

But,

Choose ChatGPT when you need more depth, detail, or creativity. ChatGPT’s capabilities surpass when you want to go beyond the basics. I’m saying,  think longer explanations, creative writing purposes, editing textual content, grammar, coding, image generation (though this takes time and isn’t duly flexible), or maybe nerd about a topic.

It is like having a knowledgeable writing, venting, or brainstorming partner who can help you draft blog posts, brainstorm ideas, answer complex questions, or even generate code. ChatGPT isn’t tied to any one platform, so you can use it for work, study, or personal projects across the web. If you’re a student, writer, marketer, or just someone who loves exploring new ideas, ChatGPT’s flexibility and depth make it a great fit.

ChatGPT is best for:

  • Writing detailed articles, essays, or reports.
  • Creative writing (stories, poems, scripts).
  • In-depth research or explanations.
  • Coding help and technical support.
  • Educational content, tutoring, and brainstorming.
  • Minimal image generation.

Bottom line?

Meta AI is the way to go if you want quick, social-focused help or fun AI-generated images right inside your favorite social media apps. But, if you need context-richer, more detailed conversations or help with complex writing and research, ChatGPT is your best bet. Both are powerful, but picking the right one depends on your goals and where you spend your digital time.

The Verdict: So, Who Wins?

For me, the champ is definitely ChatGTP. And here’s why I think this:

Using these 10 prompts to pit Meta AI against ChatGPT has opened my mind to each AI’s best part without bias. Meta AI is really fast at creating images, which is excellent, but every image comes with a watermark. That’s a bit annoying because if I want to use the picture somewhere else, I have to spend extra time removing the watermark with another app. While ChatGPT takes a little longer to make images, the best part is there’s no watermark. That means I can use the images anywhere right away without any extra work.

But it’s not just about images. ChatGPT gave me much more detailed answers to the prompts and helped me think through ideas better. For example, the HERtitude event summary was really on point, and it trimmed down the time I had to go reading about it on X. Also, when I used the voice note to ask the questions, especially when I needed to go through the poem prompt, it felt like I was talking to someone who understood what I needed. Plus, the voice feature makes it feel even more like a friendly conversation, which I really enjoy.

ChatGPT also remembers what we discussed earlier and keeps the conversation flowing naturally, but Meta AI had a day’s limit, and I had to renew the chat twice! However, Meta AI is good for quick, simple stuff, especially on social media, but when I want to get into the details or be creative, ChatGPT is the one I would turn to.

I’m not totally writing Meta AI off. Nope. It definitely has its place and works well for fast, casual tasks. I mean, I’d tab on it faster if I’m on Whatsapp when a need arises (and it’s all around free!), but for me, ChatGPT just offers a smoother, more helpful experience overall.

If you’re looking for something that can do a bit more and feels more personal, I’d recommend giving ChatGPT a try.
