Dobic Health, a healthcare firm, is gearing up for the official launch of SmartMRS, Nigeria’s first of its kind AI-powered Electronic Medical Records (EMR) platform.
This platform is designed to simplify patient data management and improve healthcare coordination in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centres, addressing the challenges of Nigeria’s fragmented patient data management system.
In many developed countries, EMRs have long been standard practice, enabling seamless consultations, follow-ups, and data sharing. However, in Nigeria, such systems are rare or almost non-existent, leaving patient information scattered and sometimes inaccessible. This could lead to a slowdown in health care delivery.
SmartMRS is stepping into that gap to simplify workflows, connect healthcare providers, and put patients at the centre of every decision. As a subsidiary of Dobic Health, its focus is on three models: consultations, laboratory, and imaging.
Solution for front-line workers
Built in collaboration with Nigerian doctors, nurses, and laboratory specialists, SmartMRS combines a user-friendly design with advanced AI capabilities. Its AI features include a Diagnocare AI and a Clinical Vision Model.
The Diagnocare AI is an intelligent assistant that processes symptoms, patient history, and context to suggest possible diagnoses and guide treatment decisions for patients.
While the Clinical Vision Model is an AI radiologist assistant that analyses X-rays, generates detailed reports, and answers clinical questions — a potential game changer for rural communities without specialists.
The SmartMRS EMR/EHR platform also integrates patient registration, consultation notes, lab and radiology tracking, and billing and secure data management, all in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
By streamlining these processes, SmartMRS can save healthcare providers precious time, about 25 seconds for every minute spent with a patient, allowing them to dedicate more of their time to delivering actual patient care.
The bigger picture
For Dr Abiodun Adereni, Founder/CEO of Dobic Health, SmartMRS is part of a broader mission to digitise and connect Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.
The vision includes scaling the platform nationwide and expanding into West African markets such as Ghana and Togo.
Dobic Health just secured pre-seed funding to accelerate its mission to transform healthcare delivery across Nigeria and Africa.
