10Alytics, an Edtech firm famed for building global tech talents, has extended its bi-annual Data Hackathon to the global stage.

The fifth edition of the Hackathon, tagged ‘10Alytics Global Hackathon 2023’, which would feature participants from over 20 countries across the world, is geared towards encouraging healthy competition and enabling data enthusiasts in Africa and beyond to compete with other leading data and machine learning experts worldwide.

The Global Hackathon, which is scheduled to hold on December 2nd and 3rd, has received over 2,000 applications and would be presided over by six judges from Nigeria, South Africa, Jordan and the United Kingdom.

Adeiza Suleman, the founder of 10Alytics, explained that the Global Hackathon aimed to provide ideas and solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals through healthy competitions among data/tech enthusiasts.

He stated that 10Alytics, through the Hackathon, is firmly committed to aligning with the United Nations SDGs as they provide a roadmap for a better and more sustainable future for all.

According to him, the hackathon's mission is to leverage data and technology to contribute to their achievement.

“From addressing environmental concerns to improving access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunities, participants are encouraged to explore a wide array of challenges related to the SDGs and proffer data-driven solutions,” Adeiza stated.

On his part, co-founder, Efemena Ikpro, revealed that what sets the 10Alytics Global Hackathon apart is its global reach with participants from Africa and other parts of the world joining forces to tackle problems that have a universal impact with a focus on the African continent.

He said, “This hackathon recognizes that addressing global issues requires a diversity of perspectives and a deep understanding of local contexts. By doing so, it empowers participants to create solutions that can make a meaningful difference on a global scale. After the hackathon, winning solutions would be developed for presentation at related SDG solution forums. We would also provide opportunities for mentorship, partnerships with top AI publications, and conduct research to support long-term sustainability.”

Adeiza & Efemena noted that the hackathon would be held virtually and is open to all, and winners would go home with prizes totalling over $2,000 (cash prize of $1,500 to be shared among the Top 3 plus an international article publication).
