Paystack has revealed that it terminated the employment of its Co-founder and former CTO, Ezra Olubi, because of “significant negative reputational damage.”
Per a statement seen by Techpoint Africa, Paystack said it terminated Olubi’s employment following the damning X posts that resurfaced. It also affirmed it acted under its contractual rights and “followed due process” in ending Olubi’s employment. The company added that it has met all financial obligations owed to him.
The company also clarified that the termination is separate from its ongoing independent investigation into workplace misconduct allegations. That investigation is being conducted by an external law firm, Aluko & Oyebode, appointed by Paystack’s board.
“As a regulated company operating in multiple markets, we have a responsibility to act quickly when conduct has the potential to undermine trust,” Paystack said in its statement.
In a blog post published on 23 November 2025, Olubi confirmed that he was informed of his termination on 22 November 2025. He claims the decision came before the so-called investigation was concluded, and that he was not given a meeting, a hearing, or an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
Olubi says that once he was suspended, he deliberately avoided making public statements so as not to interfere with the board’s investigation. But he regrets that his silence “created a vacuum” that allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”
He insists that the resurfaced tweets — which have been central to this controversy — “do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life.” He portrays himself as someone who has always “conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety.”
While his X account is now deactivated, the resources faced posts painted a very negative picture of the Paystack co-founder. They included sexually explicit comments about minors, cats, and colleagues.
Meanwhile, Olubi’s legal team is now reviewing the termination process to assess whether it complied with Paystack’s internal policies. He stated he will not be commenting further while that review is ongoing.
