On January 3, Uber launched uberAssist in Nairobi, Kenya to provide additional assistance to old people and people with disabilities.

According to Uber Kenya, driver-partners are specially trained to assist riders when getting into the vehicle and are instructed to accommodate folding wheelchairs and walkers.

To access the service in Nairobi, users would need to open the app, enter their destination, swipe left and select uberASSIST. Then proceed to confirm pick-up location and request a ride.

It was first introduced in 2015. Nairobi, Kenya is the third African city with access to the option since it first launched in Cape Town and subsequently in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2017.

Introducing the service in Nairobi will provide residents with special needs with more transportation options. uberASSIST vehicles do not have wheelchair accessible ramps and users are required to contact their uberASSIST driver-partner ahead of time with any specific requests.
