- Jumia Kenya, an eCommerce startup, has opened a new integrated warehouse and logistics network facility in Nairobi to improve the shopping experience of its customers.
- The facility will also help the company to transform its Jumia Express operations.
- Because of its proximity to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and easier access to the Central Business District (CBD) via the Nairobi Expressway, the company says the facility on Mombasa Road will ensure faster product delivery.
The warehouse and logistics network facility will transform Jumia’s logistics operations by increasing storage capacity for warehouse expansion and providing converged services.
Warehousing enables on-time delivery and efficient distribution, resulting in higher labour productivity and customer satisfaction.
It also contributes to the reduction of errors and damage during the order fulfilment process. Besides, it protects goods from being lost or stolen during transport.
According to Juan Seco, CEO of Jumia Kenya, the facility has allowed the company to consolidate its multiple warehouses and network operations under one roof.
He stated that the launch would help Jumia improve its fulfilment operations to be more efficient and scalable, thus meeting its future needs as the company grows.
The facility will also help the company to transform its Jumia Express operations.
Jumia Express is a service where merchants store their inventory in Jumia warehouses to ensure faster delivery, including next-day delivery for orders in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
Moreover, the company plans to eliminate first-mile transportation between warehouses and sorting centres, resulting in lower carbon emissions.
The company claims that combining its operations helps it reduce up to 15 truck trips per day, significantly lowering carbon emissions.
In the meantime, external clients who are not listed on Jumia but want to use its network, technology, and expertise for last-mile and line haul deliveries can use Jumia’s logistics services business arm.
The integrated facility also provides improved working conditions for employees, such as more workspace and a more convenient location in terms of accessibility.
