Some of the customers affected have taken to Twitter to lodge complaints to the bank’s support handle to rectify the issue. For some customers, when they try to log on to the bank app, it shows that the customer doesn’t have an account with the bank while some can’t process any transaction either via POS, online banking or USSD code.
On Techpoint’s visit to a GTBank branch, a customer service officer confirmed that the bank is currently experiencing downtime and this doesn’t only affect the customers but also the bank as withdrawals, deposits either by cash or cheque can’t be processed at the bank. In addition, the customer service personnel stated that the service might not be back up until this evening or tomorrow.
In response to the complaints, GTBank through its official Twitter handle apologised for the inconvenience caused on their banking platforms stating that the issue is currently being rectified. To compensate its customers, the bank extended its working hours in all its branches till 6 PM today.
Dear Customer, we know you have experienced some inconvenience today using our banking channels.
We sincerely apologize for the disruption in our service delivery to you and we are extending banking hours at our branches till 6pm today.
Thank you for banking with us

As at press time, the reason for the downtime experienced by one of the foremost banks in Nigeria is unknown. However, a bank’s server downtime could result from a bug in the servers’ operating system, security flaw or even outdated hardware.
