The general elections are about 2 weeks away, not that I need to remind you, with the aggressive (but not so focused) campaigning from both sides, you’d need to be selectively deaf and/or blind to not be aware [Soludo’s epistles >_>]. With the elections so close, Google Nigeria recently held a workshop for Nigerian journalists to equip them to efficiently cover the election (how great for us).

The theme of the workshop, which held about 2 weeks ago in Lagos, was: ‘Telling compelling stories using the social media’. Here’s a video clip for the event:

Journalists from all over Nigeria representing different forms of media; Print, Broadcast and Social, were informed about various easy to use Google tools and how visualization can effectively represent information. Among the tools were Wordle, Tabular, Info-graphics, Fusiontable and Spreadsheet.

According to Taiwo kola-Ogunlade, Google Communication and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, the workshop is meant to provide journalists with the necessary opportunities needed during (and even after) the 2015 elections.
