The just concluded 4th edition of #StartUPFriday that took place in Abuja had people from different parts of Nigeria and especially Lagos book their flights and road trips to attend the event. Red Sparrow Maitama, Abuja with a cool ambience played host to StartUP Friday attendees.

The 4th edition of StartUP Friday took off with Bunmi Okunowo, the National Coordinator of OIIE, giving the opening remarks and then calling on the Acting Director General of NITDA to give the opening speech to officially kickstart the sessions outlined for this edition.

The first panel session for the day discussed the ‘Use of Mainstream Media for Business’. This session was anchored by Andy Agbo-Madaki (Cyber, ePayment & Info Security Analyst) with Enuma Okoro (award-winning writer, speaker and communications consultant) and Jola Aderemi (Head of Business Development at Google Nigeria) as part of the panelists.

The breakout session started immediately after the first panel discussion. This edition had four breakout sessions, just like the 3rd edition of StartUP Friday, but with new topics to discuss. The hall was divided into four parts having sessions covering Traction, Marketing, Corporate Governance and an Angel Investors’ Meeting anchored by Lagos Angel Network’s Yemi Keri.

After about 45 minutes of back and forth conversations at the various sessions, the attendees of StartUP Friday were brought together to witness ‘The Future Hack‘, an open innovation segment which featured innovative solutions to deep challenges of the future (solutions with growth potential).

The ‘show-up-to-pitch’ session had the likes of Piggybank, Edves, Venue Compass, Instant Energy, Cedar Seed Foundation with Solar Powered Ability Backpacks, Poles Music and College Mobile climb the StartUP Friday stage to pitch their startups in 3 minutes.

OIIE, the organizers of StartUP Friday, also got some startups that pitched at previous editions of StartUP Friday to get on the stage to share their aftermath experience with the audience.

To wrap up the StartUP Friday event and get feedback from some investors that participated in the ‘show-up-to-pitch’ session. Mrs Cecilia Ibru, Mrs Hilary Nwakwo, Obiwanne Okeke and Folusho Gbadamosi gave feedbacks on the pitches advising the Startups.

The turnout for the 4th edition was impressive with more attendees than previous editions. A lot of engagement happening during various sessions. Definitely Abuja will not be the only host of StartUP Friday but then it all started from the Capital City and will spread to other parts of the country.
