The National Hospital in Abuja live tweeted an open heart surgery carried out on an eight-year-old Nigerian girl with the congenital ailment.
The procedure most likely lasted about four hours as the live stream started by 2:27 A.M and ended 6:08 A.M
The live stream was an emotional process for a lot of people and brought massive engagements to the hospital’s timeline. Nobody for those 4 hours imagined this government hospital as a faceless corporation with aggressive and unfriendly Nigerian civil servants.
The operation was a success and we’re glad the eight-year-old can go back to living a normal life. Dr. Tayo Haastrup in a statement to BBC said, “It was done to show Nigeria’s expertise to the world.”
This is a first of its kind in Nigeria although it’s been done in Canada before. I will love to see more corporations doing this. This is exactly how social media should be used – to create conversations and engagements.
