Remember the GIST Tech-I Competition of the U.S. Department of State and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) that we announced sometime late last year? We are pleased to announce that 5 Nigerian startups made the cut out of the of 102 exceptional young science and technology entrepreneurs selected to advance to the 2016 Tech-I Global Pitch Competition semifinals.
Their ideas and startups address a variety of critical science and technology sectors, including agriculture, aerospace and engineering, education, health, environment, energy, information and communications technology.
The startups that made it are our very own digital content distribution platform, NerveFlo. And EcoFuture a recycling company based in Nigeria is also part of the startups shortlisted.
Also on the list are Genysys Cookers another startup based in Nigeria that aims to build efficient clean cookstoves that reduce smoke pollution by 90%, and produce electricity from heat energy.
In the ideas segment, there is Afribotix, it aims to provide African farmers (and farmers around the world) with cutting edge and low-cost crop/livestock surveillance and monitoring technology. And ResSpot is an emergency response mobile app and wearable device that gives people access to public safety information and affordable personal security.
Voting is currently ongoing from April 1 until May 1 to help determine the thirty finalists to pitch at the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES ) in Silicon Valley, California in the month of June.
