UNICCON Group, through its defence technology subsidiary Babasky Technologies, has announced an ongoing collaboration with the Defence Headquarters focused on the development and deployment of indigenous autonomous systems and related security technologies for Nigeria’s defence ecosystem.
The initiative highlights growing efforts within Nigeria’s technology sector to strengthen local research, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities in advanced artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and unmanned systems.

According to the company, the collaboration builds on UNICCON’s earlier work in AI and robotics, including the development of Omeife, Africa’s humanoid robot. The company says the new initiative applies similar expertise in computer vision, autonomous navigation, and machine learning to security-focused applications designed for local operating environments in an aim to combat growing waves of insecurity across the north east.
Professor Chuks Ekwueme, CEO of UNICCON Group, said the company remains committed to developing technology solutions tailored to Africa’s needs.
“Our focus is on building indigenous capacity in advanced technology and creating opportunities for Nigerian engineers and researchers to contribute to globally relevant innovation,” he said.
UNICCON stated that the project involves local engineering teams and forms part of its broader investment in research, manufacturing, and AI-driven technologies within Nigeria.

Recall the company recently participated in a private technology demonstration at a facility in Jaji, Kaduna State, through its partnership with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) where several locally developed systems were presented to stakeholders within Nigeria’s defence and technology sectors. The showcase included autonomous aerial platforms and electronic countermeasure technologies intended to support operational efficiency and situational awareness.
