New platform gives developers, fintechs, call centres and AI companies one way to access Nigerian phone numbers, programmable calling, managed SIP connectivity and enterprise voice operations
PressOne Africa today announced the public launch of Signals by PressOne, a programmable telephony infrastructure platform that enables software and AI systems to connect to Nigerian phone networks.
The launch marks a strategic expansion for PressOne. The company originally assembled and operated the telephony infrastructure required to power its own business communications products. Signals standardises that infrastructure and makes it available to other companies through programmable voice APIs, managed SIP trunking, and event-driven calling workflows.
Across Africa, software has become central to payments, lending, logistics, healthcare, commerce and customer service. AI systems are also moving beyond text-based conversations into voice. But connecting those systems to local telephone networks still requires companies to deal with carrier integrations, source and manage numbers, build call records and monitoring, and operate infrastructure that was not designed for software or AI implementation teams.
Signals brings those requirements into one managed infrastructure platform.
“Payments, identity and logistics have become programmable, with APIs and platforms that builders can plug into. Signals launches with four products:
- Programmable Voice (Twilio Compatible) allows software to make, receive and control calls through APIs, webhooks and OneML, Signals’ call-control language derived from TwiML.
- SIP Access provides managed SIP trunking for contact centres, PBXs, diallers and AI voice systems that already have their own voice platforms.
- Signals Omni exposes completed-call events, call records and authorised recording access to CRM, omnichannel, business-intelligence, compliance and internal systems.
- Signals Automations turns business events into automated calls, captures customer responses and sends the outcome back into the originating workflow.
A lending platform can use Signals to add repayment reminders or collections calling for all the financial institutions using its software. A logistics platform can trigger delivery-confirmation calls when an order reaches a particular stage. A hospital system can automate appointment reminders. A contact centre can retain its existing software while moving its telephone connectivity to Signals. An AI voice company can keep its conversational system and use Signals to reach customers through Nigerian phone networks.
For PressOne, this expands the company beyond serving direct users of its business phone products. Software platforms can integrate Signals once and make voice available to multiple downstream customers, allowing PressOne’s infrastructure to power calls generated across entire business ecosystems.
The platform also addresses the requirements of regulated and high-volume organisations. Core production voice data is hosted in Nigerian data centres. Signals operates within an ISO/IEC 27001:2022-certified information-security management system, and relevant NDPC, data-protection and NCC regulatory evidence is available during enterprise due diligence. Enterprise arrangements support recording capacity provisioned to traffic, configurable multi-year retention, locally hosted call data and contract-backed service levels.
Signals’ technology and operations are led by Opeyemi Shokunbi, PhD, Chief Technology Officer of PressOne Africa. Shokunbi recently completed a PhD in Computer Science with a specialisation in Cybersecurity and has deployed and managed infrastructure across six West African countries.
“Telephony infrastructure has to be solid before it can be programmable,” Shokunbi said. “An API is only the visible edge. Underneath the API, someone still has to own network connectivity, routing, number management, security, observability and incident response—and remain accountable when something goes wrong. Signals was built around that operating responsibility. Builders get a clean programmable interface; regulated and high-volume organisations get the controls, local data residency and operating discipline required to run voice in production.”
Signals is live in Nigeria and designed to expand into other African markets as customer demand and local-number access become available.
