  • Blockfest Africa 2026 will return for its second edition following a 2025 debut that attracted more than 12,000 participants from over 50 countries.
  • The two-day event will feature workshops, founder-investor sessions, a main conference and networking activities connecting African talent with capital, technology and global opportunities.
  • Monica joins as Headline Sponsor, while Cake Wallet comes on board as a Silver Sponsor as the festival expands its focus to AI, policy, careers, and open infrastructure.

Nigeria’s Web3 community is set for another major gathering as Blockfest Africa returns to Lagos for its second edition, bringing together builders, founders, investors, developers, policymakers and technology enthusiasts for two days of conversations and connections around Africa’s digital future.

The festival will take place at the National Art Theatre from October 22–23, 2026, moving from the Landmark Centre, where the inaugural edition was held as a one-day convention on October 11, 2025.

The expansion follows a 2025 edition that attracted more than 12,000 participants globally, according to the organisers. This year, Blockfest Africa is using that momentum to broaden its programme beyond the themes that dominated its debut.

A New Vision for Africa’s Onchain Economy

The central theme for the 2026 festival is “New Trade Routes: Bringing Africa Onchain.”

The theme reflects a shift towards the practical infrastructure required to move African businesses, creative industries, and other forms of economic activity onto open blockchain networks.

Rather than treating blockchain primarily as a financial or speculative technology, the 2026 programme will examine how open infrastructure can create new routes for trade, ownership, payments, creativity, and collaboration across African markets.

The festival will also place greater emphasis on the intersection between artificial intelligence, technology careers, open infrastructure, and regulatory policy, expanding the conversation beyond the Web3 ecosystem-building focus of its first edition.

An extended duration for a broader conversation

The move from a one-day convention to a two-day festival represents one of the most significant changes for the second edition.

With the core speaker sessions scheduled to take place on October 22 and 23, the extended duration will help create more room for discussions, builder-focused activities, networking, and community experiences.

The change also comes with a move to the National Art Theatre, one of Lagos’ most recognisable cultural landmarks.

According to the organisers, the move to the National Art Theatre is part of a broader effort to accommodate a larger audience and overcome the capacity limitations of the previous edition.

Monica and Cake Wallet back the 2026 edition

The festival is also entering its second edition with new commercial partners.

Monica, a Nigerian fintech platform that enables users to convert cryptocurrencies into Naira and make everyday payments, has been announced as the Headline Sponsor of Blockfest Africa 2026.

Cake Wallet, an open-source, non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet focused on privacy and

self-custody, returns for the second edition as a Silver Sponsor after supporting the festival as a Gold Sponsor in 2025.

The organisers are still welcoming additional sponsors and ecosystem partners interested in engaging with the festival and its audience of founders, developers, investors, creators, policymakers, and technology enthusiasts.

The vision behind Blockfest Africa

The festival is convened by Samuel Olaoyenikan, popularly known as XeusTheGreat, a Web3 entrepreneur, investor, educator, and ecosystem builder.

His philosophy for the initiative is captured in the statement, “To know is to be free.”

Samuel believes that access to knowledge is an important part of enabling Africans to understand emerging technologies and participate in building the systems that will shape the continent’s digital future.

His philosophy continues to underpin Blockfest Africa’s approach to bringing different parts of the ecosystem into the same room. The 2026 edition builds on the foundation established in its first year, creating deeper conversations around technology, policy, talent, investment and infrastructure as Africa’s digital economy continues to develop.

Building on the first edition

Blockfest Africa’s debut in 2025 brought together more than 12,000 participants and connected attendees from across Africa and other parts of the world.

The second edition is designed to build on that network while creating a broader platform for conversations around the future of technology on the continent.

The 2026 programme reflects the organisers’ view that the next phase of Africa’s digital economy will require more than adoption. It will require builders, capital, policy frameworks, technical talent, and infrastructure capable of supporting products that can operate across borders.

The 2026 festival is therefore being positioned around the people and systems required to make that transition possible.
