Nigerian founder, Chimaobi Stanley Anyanwu, is building a technology platform that combines community, mentorship, and financial tools to help young people and creatives translate skills into economic opportunity.

Now based in the UK, Chimaobi relocated in February 2022 and launched Owllup in 2023. The platform was conceived as a community-driven social super-app, connecting users through shared interests, local and professional groups, mentorship, and structured skill-building challenges. Since launch, Owllup has grown into an active digital ecosystem supporting thousands of users across Nigeria and the diaspora.

Unlike conventional social platforms, Owllup was designed to address practical challenges faced by young creatives and early-career professionals, including limited access to mentorship, fragmented communities, and difficulty monetizing skills in trusted digital environments.

In January 2026, Owllup expanded beyond community engagement by introducing fintech functionality, including bill payments, a digital wallet, and an in-app marketplace. These features allow users to receive payments, manage transactions, and sell products or services directly within the platform. According to Chimaobi, the goal was to reduce reliance on third-party tools and create a single, trusted environment where users can learn, collaborate, and earn.

Many young people have the skills, but not the systems,” Chimaobi said. “Owllup is built to combine learning, collaboration, and financial access in one place, especially for users operating in emerging markets.”

Owllup’s development prioritized accessibility and low data usage, reflecting the realities of users in regions with high internet costs and inconsistent connectivity. Communities on the platform are organized around geography, profession, and shared interests, enabling peer learning, mentorship connections, and participation in skill-based activities and events.

Beyond Owllup, Chimaobi has played an active role in Nigeria’s wider technology ecosystem. In 2023, he founded the Nigerian Tech and Innovation Awards (NTIA), a technology-led initiative created to recognize emerging talent and support underrepresented groups within the tech space. The platform hosts annual awards, masterclasses, and ecosystem programs aimed at increasing visibility and access for early-stage innovators.

Chimaobi has also contributed through mentorship and sponsorship initiatives. Through TDBizz Limited, he has led structured programs equipping young people and female entrepreneurs with digital skills such as content creation, branding, and monetization. He additionally mentored at the 2025 Data Immersed (TDI) Tech Summit and made Owllup the official sponsor of the TDI Hackathon, supporting participants with funding and career opportunities.

Owllup Limited is registered in the UK, and Chimaobi says the UK provides an enabling environment to further develop inclusive digital platforms. He plans to expand mentorship and ecosystem support initiatives to address underrepresentation within Black tech and creative communities in the UK.

As digital platforms increasingly move beyond engagement to real-world utility, Owllup represents a growing class of African-founded products focused on combining technology, skills development, and financial access to create sustainable impact.
