On Thursday, September 11, 2025, OPay officially awarded its first set of grand prizes under the MyOPay SecurityVote Challenge at its Lagos headquarters.
The event was the culmination of a campaign centred on raising awareness of in-app security features through user-generated content, and rewarded creative entries from ordinary users who promoted financial safety across social media platforms.
The Security Vote Challenge launched in August 2025 as part of OPay’s efforts to increase awareness of its security tools and promote safer digital financial behaviour among its user base.
The campaign asked participants to produce short videos demonstrating how one or more of OPay’s seven in-app security features protect users.
These features include: Scam Alert, Night Guard, Large Transaction Shield, Online Subscription Control, USSD Lock, Large Transaction Double Check, and Emergency Lock.
“OPay’s mission has always been to make financial services more inclusive through technology, and our key value has always been to put users first.
“It is why the 7 security features were built, and also why we decided to bring it full circle by asking users to vote for which feature is their favourite and win cool prizes along the way. We are not just rewarding participation, we are also shaping a safer digital environment for millions of Nigerians,” Sunmola, Oluwaseun Imade, Enterprise Marketing Manager at Opay, said at the event.
Participants submitted entries on platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook. The entries were evaluated based on their virality, creativity, and the effectiveness with which the security feature was communicated.
The award ceremony brought together content creators, winners, OPay executives, media, and other stakeholders. Leading influencers such as Veekee James, Folasade Banks, and Taaooma were present, showcasing the level of engagement the challenge attracted.
The ₦1 million grand prize was awarded to participants whose video entry garnered significant engagement on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X, and effectively illustrated how OPay’s security tools can be utilised when people become aware.
OPay has indicated that this is not the end of the initiative. With the first grand prize now awarded, the company is preparing for subsequent phases of the campaign, which will expand opportunities for more users to engage and win, while reinforcing the visibility of its security features.
The MyOPay Security Vote Challenge positions OPay among fintechs leveraging creative user engagement to promote security awareness. By converting what might otherwise be a technical or overlooked topic into content that people both enjoy and share, OPay is making digital safety more accessible.
