Uganda’s mScan emerges winner of TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Africa 2018

Yesterday, TechCrunch hosted the second edition of its Startup Battlefield Africa in Lagos Nigeria. The event was characterised by keynote speeches, panel sessions and pitch sessions.

Fifteen startups from across Africa battled it out on stage to win a grand prize of $25,000. The startups include; Apollo Agriculture, SUDPAY, LabTECH, Complete Farmer, Bettr, FoodHubs, Honey Flow Africa, AgriPredict, MAX, CodeLn, Bankly, Powerstove Energy, mscan, Pineapple, Trend Solar.

In the first stage, each of the 15 startups, divided into three groups, pitched their products and services to a panel of judges which included investors from across Africa and beyond.

In the second stage, three finalists were invited back on stage to pitch their startups;

Bettr, a South Africa-based virtual banking platform

MAX, a Nigeria-based on-demand motorbike hailing and delivery service

mScan, a Uganda-based startup that develops portable ultrasound devices that are compatible with mobile devices.

In the end, mScan emerged winner of the TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield Africa 2019, walking away with $25,000.
