Instagram is bringing Direct Messaging to web

Instagram is reportedly testing a version of its service that will let users send messages to other users on the platform from a desktop or laptop through a web browser or mobile web browsers.

Users have been able to access the photo-sharing app from desktop and web browsers, but direct messaging was still exclusive to its native application.

A TechCrunch report says this feature “could make Instagram Direct a more full-fledged SMS alternative rather than just a tacked-on feature for discussing the photo and video app’s content.”

As messages are a great means of engagement, the report says this move could be a means to increase engagement by making it easier for users to send messages comfortably.
