Hello,
Delight here,
Here’s what I have for you today:
- The game designer who wants to create Nigerian-themed games
- Kenyan court rules on the government’s Cybercrime Act
- Nigeria unlocks tech capital with IP and trade reforms
Kenyan government cannot block social media, for now

A Kenyan High Court judge temporarily suspended two key sections of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Amendment Act 2024, effectively removing the government’s immediate power to shut down social media platforms and censor online content.
This comes after President William Ruto signed the Act into law on October 15, 2025.
The ruling was a response to multiple petitions, including those filed by gospel artist Reuben Kigame and Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri, who argued that the amendments posed a threat to free speech and digital rights.
One of the provisions would have allowed authorities to block any website or app they deemed “problematic,” including platforms accused of promoting illegal activity.
The second section criminalised posting any messages that could potentially cause someone to harm themselves.
The entire Cybercrimes Act was initially frozen, but after government pushback, the court agreed only to suspend the two contentious sections. The rest of the law remains operational. However, the legal battle continues, with social media access protected until the court delivers a final ruling on the six pending petitions.
The game designer from Edo state

Gideon Uwem began his journey into technology on the streets of First East Circular Road, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, in 2018.
At the time, he started off as a graphics designer who was selected to join an Edo state government-funded ICT academy. After graduating, Gideon worked as a freelancer, where he landed a product design contract for a fintech app in 2020.
Somehow, he wasn’t satisfied just being another UI/UX designer, and so he made the career switch to game design and development. His first breakthrough came when he was offered $5,000 to work with a Kenyan startup.
Afterwards, Uwem got recruited to build the Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run game together with developers. “That project opened the door for me to more opportunities. Instead of seeking another job, I decided to build a game studio that tells African stories,” Uwem says.
His new game features two African culture-centred settings, one of which is of Ring Road, Benin City, alongside one more setting from Paris, as Uwem doesn’t want to leave out the global audience.
Want to know how Uwem went from a young graphics designer on First East Circular Road, Benin City, to designing the Aki and Pawpaw Epic Run game, and now building a gaming startup? Get all the details in Delight’s latest for After Hours.
Nigeria unlocks tech capital with IP and trade reforms

If you’re a tech person who built a cool app, software, or invention (your Intellectual Property), the government is now making it easier for you to get money for it.
Previously, intangible assets such as software, patents, and unique designs were difficult to use as collateral for funding. Well, that’s about to change thanks to the Nigerian Federal Executive Council (FEC).
The FEC just introduced two major policies designed to provide a stronger legal and economic foundation for the country’s tech ecosystem, called the National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy (NIPSS) and the AfCFTA Protocol on Digital Trade.
This simply means that startups and inventors would now be able to use their Intellectual Property assets as collateral for loans. You can now go to a bank and say, “I want a loan, and I’m using my officially registered tech idea as security.”
And that’s not all. The policy also wants to merge the trademarks, patents, and designs registries into a single commission and automate all digital filing systems as well, making IP registration faster and more transparent for small businesses.
