Today’s podcast travelled through three countries: Nigeria, Togo, and Senegal. Although the last one could more correctly be tied to Francophone Africa, but let’s not get into technicalities.
First on the list is Kuda, more popularly known as “the bank of the free”, and its recent circular customers informing them that they would start charging a ₦50 (12 cents) stamp duty charge on all deposits above ₦10,000 ($24). Understandably, Nigerians had quite a bit to say on this decision, and we did too.
Next, we moved to Togo and the country’s spanking new e-Visa issuance platform. On July 11, 2021, the Togolese Republic announced the completion and re-launch of Togo VOYAGE, its electronic visa issuance system (e-Visa).
In Senegal, Francophone Africa’s only unicorn, Wave has announced that it is laying off 15% of its 2000-people-strong staff.
