Hotels.ng has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Akwa Ibom state government to provide remote internship for residents of the state in a bid to promote local tech talent.
The hotel booking company has two remote internship programmes every year for participants across Nigeria but this one is specifically tailored to residents of Akwa Ibom.
The programme is designed for beginner software developers, user interface and user experience (UI/UX) designers to help improve their skills. The interns will be given an opportunity to collaborate, innovate, solve real problems and receive stipends as they progress in the program.
According to a press release, the Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology and Akwa Ibom State’s representative in the agreement Dr. Nse Udo Essien, says that 150 – 500 people will be trained in the 3-month remote internship programme. He promised that the State’s Ibom e-library would be open to all the interns during the internship period.
CEO of Hotels.ng, Mark Essien had earlier hinted at the internship when he was a guest on the last Techpoint AMA Session. He went ahead to say that the internship is an opportunity to plug into global trends and that the general internship for everyone will be announced in December 2017.
The Akwa Ibom remote internship program will start on the 1st of September 2017 and prospective interns can register on the Hotels.ng Internship Portal and a laptop is the only requirement to participate.
