The ETH Enugu ’25 experience; Nigeria’s first Ethereum conference, pop-up city, and builder residency — marked a new chapter for Ethereum on the African continent.
Beyond the two-week-long pop-up city, residency, and conference, the event demonstrated that Ethereum’s builder culture is not bound by geography. The same energy shaping Ethereum in Berlin, Buenos Aires, or Bangalore was present in Enugu.
Setting the Pace
Builder Residency & Pop-Up City
Nigeria is not just a leading crypto adoption hub; it is also emerging as a builder hub. Through the ETH Enugu residency, more than 300+ builders from 15 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas applied, with 50 fellows selected. They engaged in intensive collaboration, research, ideation, and prototyping for two weeks.
The pop-up city created a real-world experiment in decentralised living and working, drawing over 500 participants onsite and online; from students and researchers to developers and global Ethereum contributors.
For two weeks, Enugu and South-East Nigeria became a living laboratory. With round-the-clock power, open co-working spaces, and daily workshops, participants experienced what a builder-first environment looks like in practice.
The Conference Day
The experience culminated in a one-day Ethereum conference that attracted over 1,000 participants, including developers, students, researchers, founders, and international guests.
The day featured workshops, panel sessions, and keynotes from global speakers, connecting Nigeria’s local realities to Ethereum’s global roadmap.

Community, Sponsors, and Supporters
ETH Enugu ’25 was made possible through the support of:
- Global sponsors and Partners: Lisk, Avalanche, Sui Foundation, Ethiopian Airlines
- Local ecosystem backers: IoTeX, Jetpad Finance, Digitpay, Horus Labs
- Public sector allies: Enugu State Government (via the SME Center & Office of the Digital Economy)
- Grassroots Web3 communities across Nigeria

Together, they brought Ethereum’s builder culture closer to Africa, ensuring the residency, city, and conference all ran smoothly.
But ETH Enugu ’25 wasn’t just about code and conversations—it was also about culture, wellness, and bonding.
The Human Layer: Culture, Fun & Bonding
While ETH Enugu ’25 was filled with building, research, and collaboration, it also showcased Enugu’s culture and natural beauty. Participants joined guided tours to the National Museum of Unity, Awhum Waterfall, and the Ngwo Pine Forest.

Mornings often began with community fitness sessions, while evenings were spent over shared meals, music, and laughter. These moments ensured ETH Enugu was not just an event, but a cultural experience that forged lasting friendships.

These moments of bonding ensured that ETH Enugu wasn’t just an event, but a cultural experience that forged lasting friendships.
Looking Forward: What’s Next?
ETH Enugu ’25 combined a residency, pop-up city, and Ethereum conference, showing Nigeria’s readiness to take its place in Ethereum’s global builder network.
The Ethereum Research Village (ERV) will launch in the coming weeks as a dedicated hub for experimentation in node operations, blockchain infrastructure, academic research, and peer-to-peer networking — ensuring momentum continues year-round.
