  • Ghana's Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has launched a government mobile app called "CitizenApp," a digital platform consolidating all digitised public services.
  • The Citizen App is designed as a personalised platform for all Ghanaians, aiming to improve access to various government services, report issues, and receive real-time information on public matters.
  • The platform allows users to pay utility bills, settle local assembly fees, obtain digital addresses, book intercity transport and update personal information, such as a name after marriage, all from their mobile phones.

The Vice President confirmed that, through CitizenApp's data interoperability system, the country is creating a digital framework that connects all government agencies, allowing for seamless data flow between them, enhancing data sharing, and improving government service efficiency.

“With this single, user-friendly platform, we are consolidating public services to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and convenience for all citizens and residents of Ghana, ” he added.

Bawumia highlighted that parents can now apply for birth certificates through the app, eliminating the need for multiple visits to government offices.

"From the moment a child is born, parents can now apply for a birth certificate with ease, without the need for multiple trips to government offices. The digital system allows for faster processing, giving parents more time to focus on their newborn instead of worrying about paperwork.”

This development further indicates Ghana’s move towards digitalisation. In January 2024, the country announced that applications for services such as New Service, Separate Metres, and Additional Load will only be accepted through its mobile application.

This development is said to be part of its digital transformation strategy and efforts to provide better customer service.

The Rent Control Department (RCD) of Ghana's Ministry of Works and Housing announced in February 2024 that it intends to digitise its operations, which means that house owners, tenants, and the department will all conduct transactions through a dedicated portal without leaving the office.

In July 2024, the country launched a maintenance mobile app called "Maintain My Road" and a call centre as part of an enhanced road maintenance programme.

The app allows users to upload pictures and descriptions of road defects and tag their exact location using GPS.
