The news:
- Yemi Cardoso is officially the acting Central Bank Governor of Nigeria.
- According to a statement by the CBN, Cardoso assumed the role of acting Acting CBN governor on Friday, September 2023.
- He will stay in office pending his approval by the Senate.
Following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu to become the next CBN governor, Cardoso will lead the apex bank in an acting capacity.
A statement by the CBN confirmed that former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele has resigned officially from the office. Former Deputy Governors — Folashodun Shonubi, Aishah Ahmad, Edward Lametek Adamu, and Kingsley Obiora — have also resigned.
Consequently, Deputy Governors nominated by the president — Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Emem Nnan Usoro, Philip Ikeazor and Bala M. Bello — have also assumed office in an acting capacity.
Cardoso and the acting deputy governors took oaths of office at the CBN headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria. However, the acting governor and acting deputy governors of the apex bank are yet to be confirmed by the Senate.
