The news:

  • Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, ordered the most Bolt rides in 2022.
  • Lagos and Portharcourt come in second and third, respectively.
  • The ride-hailing company also shared stats on dates with the most rides and favourite destinations.

Ride-haling company Bolt has shared insights on how Nigerians moved in 2022. According to the statement shared with Techpoint Africa, Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, had the most orders on the platform in 2022.

Coming after Abuja was Lagos and Port Harcourt, with a record number of rides in 2022.

While Nigeria’s capital city ordered the most rides in 2022, it recorded 90,000 orders on its best day — Children’s Day — while Lagos recorded 120,000 rides on its best day, which was May 6th 2022.

The best performing day in other cities, such as Calabar and Owerri, was 10,000  rides each on Valentine’s Day, February 14.

Big tips despite economic slowdown

The global economic slowdown didn’t stop Port Harcourt from recording the highest tip of ₦25,000 ($34). Riders in Owerri also tipped their drivers as much as ₦19,400 ($27), while the city with the third highest amount of tip is Yenogoa, with ₦10,700 ($14).

Interestingly, the cities with the most number of orders — Lagos and Abuja — capped their tips at ₦3,000 ($4).

In Lagos, the most popular pickup location was Lekki-Epe expressway, while the most popular destination was Ikeja-City mall, Ikeja.

While the ride-hailing company recorded staggering figures in 2022, there was also a number of sexual harassment reports, among other appalling encounters by riders and drivers. It is imperative for the platform to take measures to ensure that such cases do not happen in 2023.
