It is sometimes said that “God is in the details” -- details are important -- and this is true for your small business.

The seemingly little things like a SWOT analysis, social media marketing, and monitoring your cash flow might just be the difference between progress and stagnation.

Today we live in a world that's shrinking on the one hand and expanding on the other. Depending on your circle, there is a decrease in physical interaction and an increase in online engagement.

And no, this isn't only because of the pandemic.

Organisations have increasingly adopted lean management structures to get their tasks done while minimising resources and focusing on the customer.

Here are five ways you too can take advantage of various tech tools to improve your small business.

1. Know your finances

You must know your business' daily, weekly, monthly, and maybe quarterly numbers -- what's coming in and what's going out.

Be up to date with your organisation's cash flow. You can use Fluidly -- a cash management software -- to keep on top of cash flow. However, if you don't have the skills to do this, hire an accountant.

2. Become a business presentation guru

Knowing what to say but saying it poorly is almost the same as not knowing at all. An exceptional business presentation might be what stands between you and the success you desire.

While becoming a guru at anything takes time, practise, and persistence, you can take the first step by learning the essentials of business presentations. Quick tips: avoid information overload and focus only on what's relevant. And if you're not sure where to start, check out Canva's free presentation software.

3. Embrace your community

You belong to an industry of similar businesses; embrace them because sometimes they are your window to industry trends and happenings that can impact your business. Wondering where to start? Try LinkedIn Business to join a network and get insider expertise from experts in your industry.

4. Sell

Improve your ability to sell by understanding your product and the people who'd get the most value from what you offer.  It might shock you how many business owners haven't clarified this and find it difficult to sell. As a small business owner, you can drive marketing and sales using social media platforms, email, and Yet Another Mail Merge (YAMM).

5. Rest

Yes, you read that right, REST! After a period of sustained productive work, take a break to rest and refuel before plunging back into the mix. What's the tech for this? It's really up to you. You can jump on a plane, hop on a train, get in a car, or sail on a ship.

So there you have it, five ways to improve your small business with technology. While this is not an exhaustive list -- you can find what works best for you -- it is an excellent place to start.
