The real truth behind quitting your job and Launching your Startup

Every now and then, I see posts from a particular set of individuals deceiving people with stories on how they quit their jobs and launched their startups. The annoying thing about these people is that they make it look like a walk in the park; everything appears rosy with a happily ever after ending. I find this set of individuals to be inhuman and deceptive.

They have lured more than enough people into perpetual suffering and regret. The truth is either they are spending a shit load of money their parents left for them or they started a side hustle while doing their day job, and over time the side hustle grew. Or may be the dude is still sitting on his father’s couch while creating these lies. Don’t quit your job if you don’t have a backup plan. I can hear someone say “Where is the element of faith?” I’m not going to debate words with you on whether faith exists or not. Neither am I going to give you the opportunity to brand me an atheist. The good book says faith without proper work is dead on its own.

I hope your faith helps you when you get stuck indoors debating on whether to reserve your last cash for feeding or for transport while prospecting for clients.

I hope your faith saves you when your landlord begins to ask you for his utility fee, rent coming soon. Hope faith saves you when you realize that two months have already gone and the little money you saved is about to finish and nothing is coming in.

I hope your faith saves you when doubt and fear begins to creep in. You know that pride wouldn’t allow you to ask your parents for money. Pressure mounting, bills piling and you keep getting leaner and leaner. You know you can’t comfortably walk down your street because you are owing most provision stores down your street.

You haven’t eaten any good food for days, apart from those leftover garri and rice you bought while you still had a job.

Now you are getting pissed at God. Am very soon you find yourself in cyber café. Do you know what you are doing? You have finally realized it’s time to check Jobberman again. Looking for cheaper job than the last you once had. Now, you are ready to accept anything that comes your ways again. Even a factory job will do.

This post is not to discourage you from breaking out from the bondage of a corporate job. But to remind you to watch before you leap. The good news is that you can still quit your day job and launch your startup. My reality might not be your reality. Luck sometimes plays a huge role in our lives. But at least before you throw in the towel on your corperate job, get a few things in place, so you don’t end up in the pit of sorrow and regrets. Before you make that leap, why don’t you start with freelancing while you still keep your day job. When you must have gotten enough paying clients with freelancing, then quit.
