On October 21, 2021, Techpoint Africa called for preliminary nominations for the second edition of Techpoint Awards (Nigerian edition), one of the events lined up for Techpoint Build 2021 scheduled to hold in January 2022.

The preliminary awards nominations closed on Tuesday, November 30, 2021. Valid entries in each category were screened and shortlisted by an in-house committee.

After carefully looking into entries for the blockchain category, the award committee decided to split it into two sub-categories:

As with the inaugural edition, Techpoint Awards 2021 is grouped under three categories: Nomination-only, Users’ Choice, and Techpoint Editorial Choice.

Here are the shortlisted finalists for each category.

Nomination-only Categories

Based on nominations by our audience at the preliminary stage, awards in these categories will be judged by an independent team of external judges.

Most Outstanding Financial Inclusion Startup 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job giving Nigerians equal access to affordable financial services between January 2021 and now.

Most Outstanding Mobility & Logistics Startup 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job addressing mobility and logistics challenges in Nigeria between January 2021 and now.

Most Outstanding Crypto Exchange 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job in enabling Nigerians to buy, sell, and trade in cryptocurrency, between January 2021 and now.

Most Outstanding Alternative Use of the Blockchain 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job in helping Africans access Blockchain innovations from DEXs to other Web3 applications, between January 2021 and now.

Most Outstanding Healthtech Startup 2021 

This category is for startups that did an excellent job addressing challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare space, between January 2021 and now.

Most Outstanding Marketplace Startup 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job in online retail (B2C and B2B spaces), making it easy for Nigerians to shop online, between January 2021 and now.

Newbie of the year 2021

This category is for startups founded in 2021 with impressive traction and milestones.

Most Outstanding Agritech Startup 2021

This category is for startups that did an excellent job using technology to address challenges in Nigeria's agricultural space between January 2021 and now.

Editorial Choice Categories

The Techpoint Editorial Team, which has extensively covered the Nigerian tech startup space over the years, will judge these categories.

Startup of the Year 2021 

This category is for startups that achieved impressive traction and key milestones between January 2021 and now. 

VC of the Year 2021

This category is for foreign or Nigerian venture capital firms that had the most far-reaching impact on the local ecosystem between January 2021 and now.

Audience Choice Categories

These categories are exclusively judged by the audience votes.

Nigerian App of the Year 2021

This category is for user-favourite apps built by Nigerians for Nigerians in 2021.

Tech Influencer of the Year 2021

This category is for our audience's favourite influencers in Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
