Fulani herdsmen strike again
In last week’s roundup, we reported that Fulani herdsmen attacked Tiv communities in Benue state as they have in other states across Nigeria. This week, in a fresh attack, herdsmen invaded a Mobile Police camp in the Logo Local Government of Benue State, killed two policemen and burnt some houses in the area after the attack.
Fulani herdsmen attacked Mopol camp in Benue, killed two policemen by SLITTING their THROATS.

How could Fulani herdsmen even break into a mopol camp and kill two police officers? Ears are not even suppose to hear such bullshit. Nigeria is in a big mess.
— Alabo Roland 🇳🇬 (@Roland_speaks) January 9, 2018
Just now, we heard news of the herdsmen attacking the camp of Mobile policemen, Mopol 13 in Benue, killing two officers by slitting their throats. Do you call people who could invade the camp of mobile policemen in a guerilla manner & overpower armed Mopol mere Fulani herdsmen?
— Peter Ayodele Fayose (@GovAyoFayose) January 9, 2018
Following the death toll of victims of these attacks, the Benue State govenment conducted a mass burial for the 73 victims of the attack yesterday. Indegenes of Benue state and other Nigerians took to social media to mourn the dead using the #BenueMourns hashtag. Here are a few of them.
I just viewed some pictures from #BenueMourns and my eyes are flooded with tears and my heart burning with anger.
This Government is using sentiments to gamble with the lives of its citizens and it's too bad! These Fulani Herdsmen are Terrorists and should be treated as such!

Dear @MBuhari today we mourn our people who were killed by the marauding herdsmen, this should've been averted if your government was responsible enough. Posterity shall judge you for your ineffectiveness in handling this crisis. #BenueMourns #BenueLivesMatter pic.twitter.com/uL98MqMMOM

Five full trailers loaded with corpse, 73 dead people! Meanwhile, our president seats comfortably in Abuja. Our killer's go live on news channels telling the world while they attacked and are still walking free.
— 🏾 (@Kuma_Tor) January 11, 2018
The entire nation has been thrown into mourning simply because of our leadership crisis and political illiteracy of the voting populace. We MUST learn from this. Our Children must not wear these Chains of oppression. #BenueMourns 😞 pic.twitter.com/x1hNlqF57P

Why isn’t the government doing anything to stop these terrorists?
The situation in Benue doesn't ask for prayer. It requires responsible govt, capable institutions & empathetic leadership. Too much to ask?!

Just For The Sake Of Asking, Do The Arewa Consultative Forum Still Exist? Do They, Ostensibly A Socio-Cultural Organisation But Never Far From Politics When An Outsider Is President, No Longer Consider Benue, Adamawa & Taraba States To Be A Part Of The North? What Are They SAYING?

I live in a country where Fulani herdsmen are allowed to own guns to kill innocent people in Benue over cow related issues.
In this country, SARS/police brutality is celebrated.
In this country, we have to beg the government to intervene in these serious issues.

In response to the outcry, President Buhari, using his official Twitter account tweeted this:
Our security efforts in Benue State so far. Let me reassure all Nigerians that security of life and property continues to be top of our agenda, in line with our election pledge and promises: https://t.co/l5QE6P2K6K
— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) January 11, 2018
According to the factsheet, the Presidency has directed the Inspector General of Police to relocate to Benue State, the Nigerian Army has deployed Special Forces to Benue, Taraba, and Nasarawa States among other actions. Read it here. Someone suggested how to stop nomadic grazing from clashing with other forms of farming in Nigeria. Read the thread here.
May the souls of the dead rest in peace.
