If you’ve not opened Google in the last 8 hours or more, then you will be in for a real surprise - Google just got itself a new logo. Nothing major, just something different from the generic Google logo the world has known since 1999
Seems to me like the company is having some identity crisis, first Alphabet, now this?! But hey, Google is not a conventional company.
The announcement came via the Google design blog and now there’s a Google doodle for those that missed the announcements. Today’s animated doodle illuminates a wiping away of the past as the latest logo change symbolizes profound shifts in where the company is, and where it’s going.
For starters, the small blue “g” icon has been replaced with a 4 colored capital “G” and the typefont has been customized to be cross functional on all display devices and on all of Google’s web products including speech, mobile and PC.
The new logo is dramatically different and the designers had this to say,
The Google logo has always had a simple, friendly, and approachable style. We wanted to retain these qualities by combining the mathematical purity of geometric forms with the childlike simplicity of schoolbook letter printing. Our new logotype is set in a custom, geometric sans-serif typeface and maintains the multi-colored playfulness and rotated ‘e’ of our previous mark—a reminder that we’ll always be a bit unconventional.

Google’s logos no longer just sit there on the page. Rather, they’re built to respond to certain actions with animations that convey the type of computing that’s going on. For instance, when you begin a voice search the logo morphs into a mic. It's incredible dramatic and fun.

But one thing is eternal, G is for Google. Don’t quote me.
