About a month ago, we shared how Jason Njoku's iROKOtv was looking to hire software engineers with a gamified approach. The first winner of the competition has been announced. His name is Sayo Oladeji.
Oladeji beat over 200 other developers with a high test score of 324 out of 400
Njoku, CEO and founder iROKOtv wrote in his blog:
Only 96 met the minimum pass mark (100/400 or 25%) and of those, we telephone interviewed 49. We think the response was great. The insight and data we learned from the experience was an invaluable positive about the quality of engineering in Nigeria. We must admit, there were some challenges with the codility test, the main feedback was it was too academic, too long etc. But it’s what we had as the first filter. And for that, it was good enough. But massive applause to the people who took the time to take the test.
iROKOtv looks to hire 20 or so more developers using this approach. The process for recruiting is no easy feat. Each participant will first have to take a 3-hour "codility" test after which successful candidates will undergo a 20 to 30 minute interview with iROKOtv's New York based engineers. Shortlisted candidates from this point then have to take another Test4Geeks test which is followed finally by a face-to-face interview.
Do you think you have what it takes? You can take iROKOtv's Codility Test for June right here.
