Instagram is finally giving emojis their due respect. The company just updated its iOS and Android apps a couple of days ago with the ability to add emoji hashtags to posts along with three more filters (that are sure to remain unused).

The app’s hashtag feature now fully supports emojis, so comments or captions with the hashtag symbol and any of your favourite emojis are now searchable. Well, except the eggplant emoji, for obvious reasons; a vegetable considered more penile than produce these days.

Over the past few years, emoji have become part of a universal visual language. With emoji hashtags, you can discover even more by adding them to your own photos and videos, searching them on the Explore page and tapping on them when you see them in captions. - Instagram said, in a blog post.

Instagram for iOS version 6.11.0 is available today in Apple’s App Store, and these updates will be available today in the latest version of Instagram for Android, 6.20.0, in Google Play.
