Good day,

Today, I’m discussing:

  • World Photography Day
  • More about the leaked NITDA bill
  • CashBackApp’s pre-seed round

World Photography Day

world phptography day 2

Yesterday was World Photography Day, and we explored the ancient Nigerian city of Ilé-Ifè in the south-western part of the country.

During our visit, we stopped by the palace of Oba Adio, the incumbent representative of Odudua on Earth.

Every culture has its own mythology about creation, and the Yoruba mythology is worth learning about.

In celebrating World Photography Day, Techpoint Africa took a walk through this city, and paid a visit to the palace of the Oba Adio, and the Natural History Museum; taking pictures and listening to stories that form the Yorùbá history and mythology.

You can experience the tour with us.

And if you prefer text and pictures, we've got you covered: A walk of photographs through nature and culture in the ancient city of Ilé-Ifè.

Well, Ogheneruemu Oneyibo, has done extensive research and now has comprehensive answers to all the questions you may have concerning the new bill.

Check it out: 11 critical questions on the leaked NITDA bill; a tussle for more power?

Sneak peek: While the leaked bill suggests an expansion of the penalties in the old bill, it doesn’t require NITDA to collaborate with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria to enforce its regulations.

Incredibly, the bill also reveals several new sections, one of which — Section 6 — proposes that the Agency be given new powers.

CashBackApp’s pre-seed round

CashBackApp Founders

Kenyan customer loyalty startup, CashBackApp, has raised $475,000 to help scale its service in Kenya and expand to neighbouring countries.

The round was led by LoftyInc, Sherpa Ventures, and Loyal VC, and some angel investors from Nigeria, Kenya, the US, and the UK.

What about CashBackApp? Founded in 2018 by Kim Hodgson (CEO) CashBackApp assists fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) companies in building customer loyalty by allowing them to earn cash back on their everyday purchases through M-Pesa.

Interestingly, it claims to have gained significant traction, with its user base increasing at a monthly compounded rate of 38% in the first half of 2021 to 45,000 downloads.

What’s more, the startup has signed up major international FMCGs as customers, including CocaCola, Colgate, and Ajab, while its retailer network consists of eight large multi-chain retailers, including Khetias, Eastmatt, Mulleys, and Jamaa.

More plans? CashBackApp plans to reach more than one million shoppers by December 2021.
