Two weeks to save your SIM?
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the NIN-SIM linkage deadline, you probably know it was set for September 14, 2024. Well, it looks like there might be a little breathing room!
The National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) is asking the National Communications Commission (NCC) for a two-week extension, pushing the deadline to September 30, 2024.
NATCOMS President, Deolu Ogungbanjo, chatted with the News Agency of Nigeria yesterday, saying that many telecom operators have been hitting roadblocks.
The National Identification Management Commission’s (NIMC) portal is struggling to handle the high volume of uploads, making the whole process a bit of a mess. Ogungbanjo even experienced the glitches firsthand, noting that the slow upload speeds and system crashes are causing major delays.
He also pointed out that visiting the customer service centres of Airtel and MTN, he saw how clogged and sluggish the data uploads were, adding to the stress and frustration.
On a related note, the collaboration with the National Security Adviser and NIMC has uncovered some shady business, with individuals caught hoarding over 100,000 SIM cards.

The new rule limits each person to a maximum of four SIMs per network. So far, over 153 million SIMs have been linked to National Identification Numbers (NIN), and compliance is at a solid 96%.
Career insights: 6 eye-opening lessons
Consider this: If you had all the money you could ever need, would you still work? Sounds tempting, right?
In my ideal world, I'd love to be pampered and live off my parents' wealth while dedicating my time to volunteering, pursuing my passions, and studying.
But here’s the thing — most of us aren’t lucky enough to have billionaire parents like Dangote or Otedola. So, for many of us, working is just part of life.
Sidebar Alert: Just a heads-up — my parents aren’t rolling in cash, so if you’re thinking about gifting me some money, don’t be shy! 😂 I mentioned an ideal world, but we all know life isn’t perfect.
In this week’s Work Life’s edition, we’ve got Kemisola’s take on this. She’s candidly shared that she wouldn’t work if she had unlimited funds a choice but could live a comfortable life. She even walked away from two jobs recently, despite not having a new one lined up, and she’s got some intriguing reasons behind her decision.
Kemisola breaks down what she’s learned from nearly four years of working into six key lessons. These nuggets of wisdom are perfect for anyone just starting out or feeling stuck in their job. Check out Oluwanifemi’s full story and get inspired for your career journey!
E-call-up: Lagos' answer to gridlock
Big news for Lagos motorists and truck operators: the electronic call-up (e-call-up) system is set to roll out along the Lekki-Epe corridor on September 23, 2024.
This follows a delay from the initial launch date of August 1, 2024. The announcement came through a statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation via X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
The e-call-up system, designed to streamline truck movements and ease traffic congestion, will manage the flow of articulated trucks in the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone.
With Dangote Refinery starting fuel distribution yesterday, September 15, and other industrial hubs like the Lekki Free Trade Zone and Lekki Deep Sea Port in the vicinity, this system is crucial for maintaining smooth logistics and economic activity in the region.
This initiative aims to tackle the chronic congestion caused by unregulated truck parking and chaotic traffic patterns.
The system will involve five key holding parks and enforce truck movement bans during peak hours (5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.) to further reduce gridlock. LASTMA, the task force, and the Police will oversee enforcement.
The e-call-up system promises to bring much-needed order to the bustling corridor, enhancing efficiency and supporting Lagos' economic growth.
