Gilbert Lungu, DigiTax Zambia Country Manager
  • DigiTax, a Kenyan eTims tax compliance solution provider owned by Namiri Technology, has launched in Zambia following the country's recent adoption of electronic invoicing regulations.
  • Gilbert Lungu has been appointed as the platform's country manager. Lungu has served in similar capacities, including Sales and Marketing Manager at MTN Business Zambia, National Enterprise Sales Manager at MTN, Head of Enterprise Sales at Airtel Zambia, Country Manager at Cellulant Zambia, and Commercial Consultant for Hobbiton Technologies Limited, a local fintech company.
  • The move is aimed at assisting Zambian businesses with Smart Invoice compliance after the government adopted new electronic invoicing regulations under the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Act No. 27 of 2023, requiring companies to use Smart Invoices beginning July 1, 2024.

The government adopted these regulations to streamline tax compliance, improve efficiency, and reduce fraud, enhancing government revenue collection in the country.

This software-based solution introduced by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) will manage invoices and inventory data electronically, transmitting information directly to the ZRA.

Previously, Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) were used in Zambia to record business transactions and transmit invoice and receipt details in real-time to the tax authorities.

While EFDs were limited to Value Added Tax (VAT) and Insurance Premium Levy (IPL), Smart Invoice will extend to additional taxes and levies including VAT, Sales Tax, Rental Income, IPL, Tourist Tax, and Local Electricity Consumption Tax.

Caine Wanjau, CEO of Namiri Technology Limited, called DigiTax's expansion a major milestone, expressing enthusiasm about helping Zambian businesses meet new e-invoicing and tax compliance regulations.

DigiTax offers a comprehensive solution that includes system-to-system integration with existing business management systems, a user-friendly Dashboard, and full compliance with Zambia Revenue Authority regulations.

The company will compete with several ZRA-approved software vendors for Smart Invoice integration, including Zamcube ERP Solution, ISHYGA, and EBIZFRAME.

This development not only accelerates Zambia's digital transformation efforts, but also aligns the country with other African countries that have implemented electronic invoicing regulations, including Burundi, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, and Mauritius, among others.
