Irrespective of where you stay in Nigeria, your first point of call when you're unwell is probably a pharmacy, a clinic/hospital, or a herbal medicine seller.

As of 2019, there were over 40,000 public and private health facilities in the country. And considering that some streets have two or more stores across major cities, it can be assumed that pharmacies would be in the hundreds of thousands.

There are also traditional herbal medicine sellers hawking or selling in offices and shops. You have most likely used one or two of the above in the past six months.

Malaria fever is one of the major medical causes of death in Nigeria, and according to a 2019 Nigerian Ministry of Health report, it accounts for an average of 81,640 deaths annually. At least $1 billion is lost every year due to malaria infections.
