UNWIND, a Mobile App that allows people to book wellness services such as massages, facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures, was launched earlier this year at a Media Parley held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Queen Edokpa, Business Development Manager at UNWIND, spoke about the events that led to development of the App. She said people couldn't make it to Spas during the COVID-19 Pandemic due to lockdown-induced restrictions on movement. However, Clients still needed Spa services; so they kept calling to schedule sessions, which were delivered to their respective doorsteps.

The Team witnessed a rise in demand over time and saw the need to scale up in order to ensure sufficient supply at all times. On this foundation, the UNWIND Mobile App was built. UNWIND eliminates the need for time-consuming manual interactions before one can schedule Spa appointments because the entire booking process is automated down to only a few clicks.

In the same way that Uber and Bolt have disrupted the ride-hailing Industry, UNWIND is disrupting the Wellness Industry by connecting people with Certified Spa Therapists who deliver door-to-door services to Clients at home, office, events, wherever.

Joycee Awosika, Founder of UNWIND and ORÍKÌ (a Beauty Product Firm with a chain of Spas in Lagos), spoke about the benefits of UNWIND to Service Providers and Clients alike.

Professional Setup for a rejuvenating Therapy Session

According to her, UNWIND Service Providers (USPs) are free to choose when it’s convenient for them to accept bookings while Clients, on the other hand, don’t have to wait for long after booking because available Therapists are always nearby.

Joycee gave an overview of UNWIND’s non-tolerance policies against safety and sexual breaches. According to Joycee Awosika, all Therapists on the UNWIND App are trained, certified and rigorously vetted in partnership with Verification Service Providers authorized by the NIMC (National Identity Management Commission of Nigeria).

Spa Therapists seeking to boost their income are welcome to bring their wealth of knowledge and expertise to UNWIND, as the Team is currently receiving applications and also training Therapists who need to upskill. UNWIND also offers prior learning interventions to qualified candidates, after thorough background investigation.

According to Joycee Awosika, the UNWIND App is the first of its kind in Africa that is entirely focused on delivering spa services to people in their respective comfort zones.

UNWIND also solves the problem of low occupancy rates among Spas by allowing them to list their in-house Therapists on the App, so they can go fulfill doorstep orders on days when there aren’t enough Clients to serve on-site. This translates to resource maximization and revenue increase for Spas.

Plans to expand beyond Lagos to other States such as Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano are currently in progress, after which UNWIND will further expand to other countries beyond Nigeria's borders including Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa.

An investment round is on the table for UNWIND, but Joycee Awosika says the next phase involves seeking Partners to help the Mobile App scale faster.
