Bumpa, a Nigerian eCommerce startup, has announced the integration of its platform with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, to boost social commerce for business owners.

Bumpa will allow social merchants on its platform to manage their direct messages (DMs) from Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp directly on Bumpa without having to go to any of the Meta platforms.

Bumpa, founded in February 2021 by Kelvin Umechukwu and Adetunji Opayele, assists merchants and businesses in moving their operations online.

It enables merchants with no technical skills or experience to set up their eCommerce store using their smartphones.

This integration will begin with Instagram because the CEO says that Instagram accounts for 40% of all sales recorded on the Bumpa app, with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp following.

So, business owners who link up their Instagram business accounts with Bumpa can now receive Instagram DM queries directly on their Bumpa app, allowing them to sell their products faster and more conveniently.

This feature assists business owners in creating business websites, displaying and selling products, issuing invoices and receipts, recording sales, receiving business financial reports, and sending bulk SMS and payment requests to customers, among other things.

This integration is expected to cut Instagram DM response time in half and make selling on Instagram 5 times faster.

The company claims that this integration is expected to skyrocket the startup's growth.

Recall that the startup raised a $200,000 pre-seed round in September 2021 to build Africa's Shopify.

According to the Q1 2022 Social Commerce Survey, the social commerce industry in Africa and the Middle East is expected to grow by 70.3% annually, reaching over $8,900 million in 2022.

This shows that there is an increase in smartphone and social media users and the traditional way of making online purchases — via eCommerce — in Africa.

Further, in Nigeria, where Bumpa operates, the change is significant. Data shows that Nigeria's social commerce market is expected to grow by 82.4%per year, reaching over $1 billion by 2022.

According to Meta, what Bumpa is doing aligns with its vision of making its family of messaging apps the primary way businesses communicate with their customers.

Besides that, this integration fulfils Bumpa's goal of simplifying operations for small businesses in Africa.

The company believes that this feature in Africa could not only change the way Africans do social commerce on the continent but also revolutionise its eCommerce industry.
