Some members of the Flutterwave team

This week on the Techpoint Africa Podcast, there was quite a lot to discuss. From an Internet shutdown to new hires, the weekend had some interesting news.

In Central Africa, the Sudanese government shut down the Internet in the country on Thursday, June 30, 2022, due to protests against the military government. This is at least the fifth time this is happening since 2019, and as Emmanuel says, it is "brute hammer tactics."

In our second story, we talked about African unicorn, Flutterwave's new hires. The company has appointed Gurbhej Dhillon, former MD at Goldman Sachs, as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Oneal Bhambani, a former vice president at American Express, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

But Chimgozirim believes there's more to these appointments than meets the eye.

Moving on to the last story, we discussed a crypto scam by a South African trading and networking company that stole $1.7 billion. This was an excellent opportunity to tackle Bolu's blockchain cronies.

US derivatives markets regulator, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has filed civil lawsuits against Mirror Trading International Proprietary Limited (MTI) and its CEO, Cornelius Johannes Steynberg.
