Following the announcement, Chidi Ajaere, CEO of Greatman Legend (formerly GIG Group), said, in a statement,  "I believe that GIGM is ready to move on from its founders. Engaging in actionable steps to strengthen our goal to provide innovative and disruptive products as well as build an empowered and efficient workforce is something we are committed to at GIGM.

“Enahoro brings unquantifiable experience to this role and will drive value for all stakeholders through his leadership and initiatives. I am delighted that we were able to get him to embrace the long-term vision of GIGM as he takes on this new role.”

On his part, Okhae hinted at GIGM embedding more customer-friendly features in its products. “Technology has been pivotal in positioning GIGM as an industry leader, and technology will be the premise on which the company will continue to lead the industry.

“The digital age is primarily characterised by customer-first features with crucial attention paid to customised services. This new dispensation will focus on implementing future-proof business strategies while integrating more lifestyle features into the GIGM application enabling users to do things freely while moving freely.”

Building a sustainable business

Over the past few years, GIGM has steadily incorporated technology into its operations, transitioning from a transportation company to a tech-driven mobility player. In 2019, it launched its services in Ghana as part of moves to become a pan-African player.

That was followed by the addition of payment services in 2021 as the company revealed its desire to facilitate the movement of not just humans and goods but also value.

Commenting on GIGM’s mobility goals, Okhae shared that the company plans to embed more lifestyle features in its products.

“Mobility is beyond movement; it is about the ability to move easily and unhindered irrespective of the channel: land, rail, water, air, or virtual/augmented reality. While moving freely, people should also be able to move things freely. This is the new renaissance of GIGM and the bedrock upon which we will embed more lifestyle features in the existing customer app.”

With the new leadership not including anyone from the company’s founding team, it would be interesting to watch the business’ attempts to stay relevant in the face of stiff competition.
