Cryptocurrency and Blockchain technology has filled conversations around emerging technologies and, in recent times, it has exploded in Africa. The likes of chain analysis and useful tips have shown astronomical crypto transaction numbers.

This, largely, points to a growing trend of crypto trading in Africa, but crypto and blockchain promise so much more. The world of NFTs (Non-fungible tokens), alternative finance, and diverse use cases in real estate, elections, and agriculture, leaves significant room for innovation.

Bitmama, one of Africa’s foremost cryptocurrency exchanges, wants to foster a crypto culture in Africa that goes beyond trading. Ahead of the exciting conversations at Techpoint Build on January 22, 2022, we caught up with Bitmama's COO for a brief chat.

Let's get to meet you—a brief bio about you and what you do?

Hi, my name is Akinbola Asalu, I’m the Chief Operations Officer at Bitmama, Inc. My job entails handling day-to-day operations at the company, building partnerships and every other aspect necessary to steer the company's affairs forward.

How would you explain your startup's value offering to a five-year-old?

We help people and businesses receive and send money easily and fast using digital currencies.

What makes you excited about Techpoint Build 2021?

I’m looking forward to the thought-provoking conversations we'll be having at the event, including meeting with like-minds, experts and gaining more knowledge on different and new industry perspectives.

What pain points do you think needs to be addressed in the Blockchain space?

I believe there’s still a significant knowledge gap that needs to be filled. People have heard but still don’t get it or its extensive use cases. The more knowledge we share, the better for us. It's the reason we've initiated the Bitmama Credit Programme to give people an opportunity to learn more about the blockchain space and get involved, especially from the skills side.

What impact do you envisage following Techpoint Build conversations on the next frontier?

I think it will open the minds of attendees to the various possibilities. In summary, an eye-opener for everyone who'll be attending.

Bitmama CEO, Ruth Iselema, will be having a one-on-one session with our Blockchain Reporter, Bolu Abiodun on the topic: “Crypto beyond trading” on January 22, 2022. Meanwhile, you can visit Bitmama’s website to get yourself prepared and ask compelling questions.
