Verve, the 11-year-old Pan-African payment card brand owned by Interswitch, has extended its reach to countries outside Africa, allowing its users to make transactions in 185 countries around the world.
Verve recently announced that through its partnership with Discover Global Network -- a leading US card platform, it will allow international and cross-border transactions for its customers using the new Verve Global Card.
In a statement, Executive Vice President, Payment Services at Discover Financial Services, Diane Offereins, said the partnership is mutually beneficial, as it would help both companies expand their customer base, and increase acceptance of their products and services.
Before now, holders of Verve cards could only use their cards in Nigeria and some other African countries.
On August 12th 2019, the first international transaction using the new card was carried out at Swarovski -- a jewellery shop-- in New York.
With the introduction of Verve Global Card, Verve and her parent company -- Interswitch -- joins the ranks of global brands like Visa and Mastercard.
According to Verve’s customer care service department, the new Verve Global Card is different from the current one (Verve Classic Card) and customers would have to get the new card at their respective banks.
As at press time, only Fidelity Bank has confirmed that the cards are currently available.
Evidently, this is good news for Nigerians as they are no longer limited to only two cards for international transactions.
